Northern Royal Albatross in flight
A Northern Royal Albatross pictured in flight off the coast of Dunedin, New Zealand. This species is the third largest albatross in the world, with a wingspan reaching up to three metres.
They are classified as endangered and face threats such as limited breeding sites, plastic at sea, introduced predators, and heat stress.
The Royal Albatross Centre at Taiaroa Head is a successful wildlife reserve which aims to protect this vulnerable species and its habitat.
